Market East

An Emerging District in Downtown Indy

Established April 16, 2014

Exciting projects are breaking ground or being contemplated on the near eastside.  Come see how Downtown Indy’s emerging district showcases modern, green buildings and well-known historic landmarks.

Boundaries for Market East are: Delaware Street on the west, New York Street to the north, East Street on the east and the train tracks on the south.   The District features bustling public spaces, healthy green activities and connectivity to the rest of Downtown Indy.

Historic Attractions:

Anchoring Market East is the historic Indianapolis City Market. Stroll through the renovated landmark and enjoy a glass of wine or Indiana-brewed beer. Grab lunch or the ingredients to make dinner. Purchase unique gifts. Satisfy the inner foodie in you. Or simply hang out with family and friends.

The Hall is the planning hub for the City’s Plan 2020.  It’s where ideas connect. Come explore changing exhibits including Indianapolis Downtown, Inc.’s strategic plan: Velocity, plans for the IndyGo Transit Center and more.  Opportunities to host your own event or business meeting can be accommodated too.

Modern Living:

Artistry is a creatively-revitalized, mixed-use space featuring five stories of urban apartment homes and up to 68,000 square feet of commercial office space. Its architecture, modern features and appreciation for the arts is bound by the community’s history of craft and skill. With a fun and creative atmosphere, Artistry allows your life to become a work of art. Now Leasing!

A brand new 28-story tower is coming to the Market District by 2016.  Currently called Market Square Tower, the apartment community will feature street-level retail, a rooftop garden and many sustainable design features. (need more info on this one..)

Walkable, bikable and soon a public transit hub:

(Coming late 2016) The Downtown Transit Center (DTC) will be a hub for public transit. It will include a large public indoor waiting area as well as bus bays with canopies to protect passengers from the elements. With its close proximity to the heart of Downtown, the Cultural Trail and Bike Hub, the DTC will serve pedestrians, cyclists and bus riders. IndyGo and the City of Indianapolis are also exploring possible bike and car share facilities at the transit center to increase multi-modal transit.

The Indy Bike Hub YMCA is a unique facility connected to the Indianapolis City Market and located in the heart of the Market East District.  The Y is literally a Hub of activity for bike commuters, fitness enthusiasts and out of town guests alike.  You will find classes such as cycling, yoga, Pilates, and boot camp; cardio and strength equipment; showers and locker rooms; day and overnight bike parking; BGI full service bike shop and bike rental. Whether you need a quick workout, a place to park your bike while you visit the City Market, or get your bike fixed, the Indy Bike Hub YMCA is the place to be!

The Indianapolis Cultural Trail delivers you to Market East’s doorstep.  The Trail is a world-class 8-mile urban bike and pedestrian path that connects the Cultural Districts, neighborhoods and entertainment amenities.  It also serves as the Downtown hub for the Central Indiana greenway system.

Market East is close to many major destinations:  one block to Mass Ave, Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Georgia Street; two blocks from Monument Circle and Circle Centre Mall and a short jaunt to Lucas Oil Stadium, Victory Field, White River State Park and all of Downtown’s wonderful amenities.
